Biography--

Judith Kay “Judy” Gates, 72, of La Porte City, Iowa, went to heaven Sunday, September 4, 2016 at her home.

She was born April 2, 1944 in Waterloo the daughter of Karl and Melda (Maldzahn) Weltzin. She was a 1962 graduate of Jesup High School. Judy was united in marriage to Gary Gates on September 2, 1966, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Judy worked various jobs including Black Hawk County Courthouse, Hy-Vee, La Porte City Bakery, but the job that she loved the most was caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City.

She is survived by her husband Gary of La Porte City; one son, Jason (Jennifer) Gates of La Porte City; one daughter, Lynette (Jon Holst) Buenger of Elk Point, South Dakota; five grandchildren: Hannah, Aubrey, Tyler, Nathan and Madison; and by two sisters and one brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Judy loved cooking, dancing, collecting cookie jars and cookbooks and spending time with her family.
