Celebration of Life Services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Friendship Village Chapel, 600 Park Lane, Waterloo.

Cemetery:
Garden of Memories, Waterloo; with Full Military Honors accorded by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sullivan Brothers V.F.W. Post 1623 and the United States Marine Corps Honors Detail.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 420 Harwood Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701, Cedar Valley Hospice, PO Box 2880, Waterloo, IA 50704 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Biography--

Albert George Webbeking, age 94, of Waterloo, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center of pneumonia.

He was born May 10, 1922 in Waterloo, the son of Carl and Therese Plaisier Webbeking. Albert graduated from Waterloo East High School with the Class of 1940 and was employed during high school at Webbeking Bakery. Albert enlisted in the US Navy and then Marines in 1942 and served until 1946, and was commissioned as an officer and a fighter pilot. Because he loved flying, he joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1951, retiring in 1968 with the rank of Major.

He was involved in both the Philippine Liberation from the Japanese and the South Korean Liberation. During his military career he received numerous medals and awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross and he was a three time recipient of the Air Medal.

Albert was a 1951 graduate of Iowa State University, where he studied mechanical engineering. He worked as a manufacturing engineer for John Deere & Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo and was a longtime volunteer for Cedar Valley Hospice.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; a son, Guy Webbeking and a grandson, Jesse Webbeking, all of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by four brothers: Vernon, Carl, Otto and Ewald Webbeking; and by two sisters, Elfrieda Eschweiler and Dorothy Worst.
