4-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and also one hour before the service at the church

Garden of Memories Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post #19, Evansdale AMVETS Post #31 and the Iowa National Guard Honor Detail

Biography--

Herb W. Gustafson, 78, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He was born August 29, 1938 in Waterloo the son of Robert I. and Velva L. (Vose) Gustafson. He was a 1956 graduate of Waterloo West High School. He married Carol R. Boemecke on October 16, 1960 in Waterloo.

Herb retired as Office Manager for Lewis Motor Supply/Dorfman Machine Shop. Following his retirement he worked as a funeral attendant for many years at Kearns Funeral Service.

He served in the U.S. Army, under the 36th Army Band. Herb was the first member baptized at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife, Carol of Waterloo; one son, Greg Gustafson of Waterloo; one daughter, Karla Berry of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Zach, Sean, Andrew and Allison Berry and Whitney Gustafson and two great grandsons, Keegan and Kylar Berry.

Preceded in death by his parents.
