CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Harold C. Fruchtenicht, 86, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born June 26, 1929 in Cedar Falls, son of Will and Esther (Thierman) Fruchtenicht. He married Donna Martin and they later divorced.

He graduated from Hudson High School in 1948 and served with the US Navy Seabees during the Korean War. He worked in road maintenance for Black Hawk County, farmed, and was a truck driver for Assinks Sand and Gravel. He was Past Master of Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65 AF and AM.

He is survived by two daughters, Joni Claussen and Jill Fruchtenicht, both of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jerry (Teri) Fruchtenicht of Cedar Falls, and Jeffry (Brenda Markey) Fruchtenicht of Independence; a son-in-law, Jack Haes of Florida; seven grandchildren: Chad (Sarah) Martinez, Phillip Claussen, Amanda Claussen, Kati (Matt) Altick, Joe (Alyssa) Fruchtenicht, Sara (Ian) Wrage, and Cari (Abbie) Dufel; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Vern) Cordes of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Haes; a brother, Robert Fruchtenicht; and his life-long companion, Donna Drum.

Services: Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Service, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Visitation on Monday at the funeral home, and also for one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

As a pilot, he flew children to the Shriners Hospitals, and was a member of the Flying Fez. He was the recipient of the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50 years of flying experience.
