Nadine Grace (Buss) Schroeder was born on July 6, 1935 in Waverly, Iowa, daughter of Ernest and Ethel Steege Buss.

Nadine grew up on a farm outside of Denver, Iowa. Nadine’s youth was spent immersed in her family, including two sisters, Sharon and Kathy, and an extended family network of aunts, uncles and cousins. Nadine attended school in Denver, where she was a star forward on the high school girls’ basketball team.

Following high school, she worked at Lutheran Mutual Insurance Company (CUNA). On June 5, 1955, Nadine married her high school sweetheart, Jim Schroeder. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1955, as Jim began his teaching career at Orange High School. They built a house close to the school, where they raised six children. To help support the family, Nadine provided daycare services for the children of friends, later began a long career as secretary to principals at Orange, Central and West High Schools.

She retired from the Waterloo Community School District in 1996. After retirement, Nadine worked with the Black Hawk Election Board. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Nadine passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, at ManorCare Nursing Home in Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel, and her sister, Janice.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; six children: Beckie (Norm) Ryan, Vicki Schroeder, Pam (Brett) Lytle, Lori Lux, Scott (Susie) Schroeder and Kristi Irvin; thirteen grandchildren: Lexie Ryan, Maggie Ryan, Sarah Lytle, Beth Lytle, Drew Lytle, Chad Lux, Matt Lux, Andy Lux, Thomas Lux, Joshua Schroeder, Mackenzie Schroeder, Kalyn (Ryan) Salhus and Jason Irvin; sisters, Sharon Thomason and Kathy (Steve) Schwemm; brother-in-law, Dennis Schroeder; and six nieces and nephews.

Nadine loved her family dearly, and was loved by many. She also loved the outdoors, every kind of animal and following the Iowa Hawkeye sports teams.
