South Waterloo Church of the Brethren or Cedar Falls Western Home FoundationPhyllis Helen Platt, 86, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died at the Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls, on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Phyllis was born November 10, 1929 in Waterloo, daughter of J. R. and Newella Mehlhouse Reimer and graduated from Orange High School in 1947 and then attended UNI. She married James A. Platt on August 21, 1949 in Waterloo.
Along with her husband, they farmed in Orange Township. She also was a substitute teacher in the Waterloo Community Schools for 15 years until 1972; co-chairwoman at National Dairy Cattle Congress from 1978--1994; Phyllis and Jim delivered Winnebago campers across North America for 12 years; and then delivered products across the country for shows and to businesses and homes for Waterloo Industries driving a straight truck for 10 years.
Phyllis was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday School, was librarian, on the church board, women's group and book club; she was also a 4H leader; member of the T-N-T Club and 15-30 Club. She loved to cross-stitch, read, watch TV, crossword puzzles and spend time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Cedar Falls; son, Richard (Lori) Platt; grandsons, Cory (Jennifer) Platt and Casey (Barbara) Platt; granddaughter, Hailey (Donald) Pettit, all of Waterloo; and seven great-grandchildren: Rylee, Raeanne and Reed Platt, Keegan, Emma and Olivia Platt, and Gabe Pettit.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Platt.Source: Locke Funeral Home
