Biography--

Jackie L. “Jack” Hein, 85, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 28 at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls.

Jack was born October 9, 1930 in Fairbank, Iowa, son of Herman August and Olga Marie Strempke Hein.

He married Jeanne M. Scott on August 26, 1956 in Waterloo; they divorced in 1996. Jack then married Earlene Shelton on April 17, 1999 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2016.

He attended St. John's Lutheran Elementary and graduated from Fairbank High School in 1948.

After 37 years, he retired as a Supervisor at the John Deere PEC in the assembly of experimental tractors. Following John Deere, he worked at Scheels Hardware and Diedrich & Associates.

Jack served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church. Jack enjoyed walleye fishing and carpentry.

He is survived by: a daughter, Jayne (Jeff) Lopez of Maricopa, Arizona; a son, James “Jim” (Ruth) Hein of Janesville, Iowa; two grandchildren: Adam and Caleb Hein; a brother, Russell (Ardelle) Hein of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; and his first wife, Jeanne Merrick of Mesa, Arizona.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Earlene; two brothers, Wayne and Kenneth Hein; and a sister, Mary Werdle.
