Biography--

Karen L. Brandhorst, 70, of Hudson, died at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls on Friday, September 30, 2016, of cancer.

Karen was born July 9, 1946, in Waterloo, the daughter of Kenny and Betty Gibson Rausch. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1964 and attended Gates Business College.

Karen married Gary L. Brandhorst on June 15, 1968, in Hudson.

She worked as a mail clerk at UNI for 37 years, retiring in December 2015. Karen was a member of the Community Church of Hudson.

Karen was loving, caring, compassionate, giving and always had a positive outlook on life. She loved going to musicals, watching classic movies, spending time with friends, family, and grandkids, rescuing cats, and listening to Elvis Presley. She taught Sunday school for many years spreading the love of Jesus to the hearts of her Sunday school children. She greeted everyone with smiles and heartfelt hugs making everyone feel special. She adored being a grandma and loved her grandsons. She will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her husband Gary of Hudson; daughter Jenny Brandhorst of Chicago; son Luke and his wife Christina of Adel, Iowa; two grandsons, Brett and Reed Brandhorst; brother K.C. Rausch and his wife Patty of Mt. Auborn, Iowa; sister Robin Rausch and her wife Patty Novell of Sayreville, New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents.
