Biography--

Velma Brown, 94, of Waterloo, died at Ravenwood Specialty Care on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from complications of age.

She was born February 12, 1922 in Buchanan County, daughter of John and Clarissa Schuman Fay and graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1940.

Velma married Clinton R. Brown September 1, 1940 in Waterloo; he died September 1, 2009.

She volunteered at Goodwill Industries for 25 years in the Antique Corner pricing antiques, was a charter member of the Prairie Rapids Doll Club, and a member of Waterloo Women’s Club.

Velma enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, working in her flower gardens and collecting antiques and dolls. She was married to Clinton Brown for 69 years until his passing in 2009. They were faithful members of Grace Baptist Church. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Seger of Waterloo, five grandsons: Brian (Donna Heller) Ballheim of Waterloo; Gregory (Kristin Sizemore) Ballheim of Alexandria, VA; Steven Ballheim of Waterloo; Andrew (Stephanie) Ballheim of San Marcos, CA; David (Kristen) Ballheim of LeClaire, IA, and great granddaughter Lucille Barbara Ballheim.

Velma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Barbara Ballheim, two sisters Dorothy Sturtz and Pauline Lowe, and brother Ralph Fay.
