Biography--

Eugene V. "Gene" Fike, age 84, of Edina, Minnesota, formerly of Waterloo; supported by the love of all his family, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

He was born on March 24, 1932 in Waterloo, IA, son of Clayton and Edna Keller Fike. He married Virginia Mary Grosso on November 26, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown, IA. Gene was proud of his many years of work at John Deere Component Works and retired from the Waterloo Engine Works after 29 years of service.

During his life, Gene was a member of Cedar Valley Community Church and an active member of the John Deere UAW, Elks Club and the Moose Lodge. He served many Thanksgiving dinners at the union hall and was a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross. After retirement he drove charter bus for Iowa Coaches and truly enjoyed his travels across the country. He also loved fishing, camping and spending time with his children and grandchildren and “tinkering” in his garage where he made sure the grandkids had snacks and words of wisdom.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Virginia as well as 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

He is survived by four children, Waynetta Aten-Mitchell (Roger) of Decorah, IA; Terry Christensen (Tammie) of Tucson, AZ; Lynne Marie Winninger (Thom) of Edina, MN; Kay Harkness (Tony) of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren: Joseph Aten (Jami) of Houston, TX; Timothy Aten (Kate) of Houston, TX; Amanda Aten of Decorah, IA; Michael Christensen of Chippewa Falls, WI and Kaaren Christensen, Osseo, WI; Ginny Winninger-Ogle (Michael) of Edina, MN; Kate Winninger-Smith (Stefan) of Edina, MN; Nicholas Winninger of Minneapolis, MN; Alex Winninger of Colorado Springs, CO; Nicolle Harkness of Lexington, KY; Shelby Harkness of Tuscaloosa, AL; Caleb Harkness of Fort Worth, TX; three great-grandchildren: Paige Aten, Theodore Ogle and Everett Smith; two sisters; Daisy Wildeboer of Cedar Falls, IA; Wanda (Lynn) Keesler of Charlotte, MI.
