Biography--

Alwin LeRoy Berry, 89, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at NorthCrest Specialty Care of natural causes.

He was born January 10, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Howard and Lillian Uhlenhopp Berry. Alwin served in the United States Army as a military policeman from 1945-1946, receiving an honorable discharge.

He married Ruth Thomas May 18, 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Alwin was a delivery truck driver for McGregor Furniture Store for 27 years, retiring in 1989.

He enjoyed going for long walks and watching the fights on TV. In 2011, he had the privilege to be on the first local Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his son, Richard.

Alwin is survived by Ruth, his wife of 60 years; a daughter, Linda (Patrick) Barnett of Waterloo; three sons, David, Richard (Sherry Kennedy) and Ronald (Bonnie), all of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Joseph (Jamie) Barnett, Jenny Barnett and Elizabeth Berry; four stepgrandchildren, Kristen (Mark) Manson, Faith (Grant) Miller, Heather Cummings and Shawna Cummings; four great-grandchildren, Caiden, Ryley, Sydney and Ella; and 10 step great-grandchildren, Emmilyn, Abel, Eve, Parker, Joslynn, Shania, Karma, Trae, Tiara, and Tionie.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Vern.
