Biography--

Max G. "Sam" Long, 67, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls.

He was born May 2, 1949, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Frank Long and Elnora Medhaug Murphy.

Sam attended Waterloo East High School and owned and operated Black Hawk Iron Metals for the majority of his life, retiring in 2004.

He married Kathy Tournier and they were later divorced.

Sam loved to work in the scrap yard and the friendships formed over the years. He enjoyed Western movies, camping, fishing, Chicago Bears and Dale Earnhardt.

Sam is survived by his two daughters, Kalena Dieken and her husband Steve of Dike and Saprina Jamason and her husband Todd of Waterloo; four granddaughters: Karle, Chloe, Sadie and Lucy Jamason; a brother, Bill Long of Waterloo; two sisters, Jeanette Petersen of Denver and Ellen Huston of Waterloo, and a wide circle of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marty Long.
