Biography--

Orlan W. Ott, Sr., 95 of Waterloo, died at Friendship Village Health Center Saturday, January 14, 2017.

He was born May 24, 1921 in Hartley, Iowa, son of Walter and Ella Schmidt Ott. He graduated from Hartley High School in 1938 and attended Morningside College.

Orlan married Emily "Kitty" Katherine Gibbons on April 21, 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a truck driver for 23 years at Vitalis Truck Line before retiring in 1985.

He served in the United States Navy during WW II stationed in Hawaii aboard the USS Bon Homme. He was a member of the American Legion.

Orlan was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was an usher. He won the National Golden Gloves Championship in 1944 and had even fought Joe Louis twice in exhibitions.

He is survived by his wife, Kitty of Waterloo; daughter, Emily (Charles Johnson) Millar of Cle Elum, Washington; sons, Orlan “William” (Catherine) Ott of San Diego, California and Michael (Robbi) Ott of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandsons: Sean (April) Millar, Sean Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Zachary Garvin and Brenden Garvin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Johnson; and twin granddaughters: Haelli and Madison Ott.

Orlan is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Esta Ott and brother, Dale Ott.
