Biography--

Eugene "Gene" Charles Fluhr, 78, of Denver, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, January 23, 2017 at his home of natural causes.

He was born October 12, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John F. and Leona Stecker Fluhr and graduated from Loras Academy/Holy Ghost Catholic School. He was Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in his class at Terre Haute in 1956.

Gene married Patricia Miller January 31, 1959 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. He was a welder and crib attendant at John Deere for many years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, he worked at Kay's Enterprises in Janesville as a welder.

He served in the Iowa National Guard. Gene was also a member of UAW Local 838 and the Jubilee United Methodist Church in Waterloo. A favorite pastime of his was fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Donald and wife Theresa of Waterloo and Jeffery and wife Jeannie of Jesup; a daughter, Jannette Heasley of Waterloo; and 13 grandchildren and 19 great‑grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his two sisters, Phyllis Tschiggfrie and husband Ray, Judy Lange and husband Jim, and a brother, Richard and wife Lynn, all of Dubuque.

He is preceded in death by his three sons: Melvin, Ronald and Todd; his twin brother, Jack; and a sister, Grace Mown.
