Mary Lois "Grandma Tweety" Iehl, 90, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls.
She was born December 15, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Arthur and Gladys Akin King. She married William Ray Iehl on Nov. 9, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Waterloo; he died Nov. 6, 1986.
Mary graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1944 and attended Ottawa University, Kansas from 1945 1946. She was a homemaker for most of her life but had worked at Agape Therapy from 1987 to 1997.
Mary became a member of First Baptist Church of Waterloo by baptism in 1936 and was active in Friendly Stars and the Women’s Quilters Group. She had been involved in the Iowa Farm Bureau and Ladies Aid Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Paula (Larry) Nielsen and Wanda Bergstrom, both of Waterloo; five sons: Ray (Joan) and Rex (Jerri), both of Waterloo, Cal (Deb) of Cedar Falls, and Marshal and Chris (Diane), also of Waterloo; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert D. King.
She was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Ami Iehl, Traci Iehl and Brent Bergstrom; a great-granddaughter, Makenzi Iehl; a son-in-law, Jim Bergstrom; and a brother, Richard King.
