Obituary for William Charles Phillips

July 5, 1939 - March 13, 2017

William Charles Phillips, 77, of Manchester, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday at his home.

He was born July 5, 1939 in Dewar, son of Joseph H. and Mathilda Kass Phillips. He married Judith Torney June 24, 1961 in St. John Catholic Church, Waterloo. They later divorced. He married Patricia DeLong. They later divorced.

William graduated from OLVA, Waterloo and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was employed with John Deere at the Northeast site for 33 years, retiring in 1991.

He is survived by a son, Ronald Torney (Millie) Phillips of La Porte City; two daughters, Rebecca Lynn (Daniel) Warren of Waterloo and Melissa Violet (Mathew) Jorgensen of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren: Emily, Morgan and Lauren Phillips, Sarah, Danny, Cody, and Joseph Warren and Melanie and Alec, Navarro and Lathan Jorgensen; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Laurel) of Kyle, Texas and Charles (Mary) of Waterloo; two sisters, Norma Frost of South Bend, Indiana and JoAnn Voyek of Waverly.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 21 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, where flag presentation will be conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.

Public visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, March 20 at the funeral home on West Ridgway, and continue for one hour before services on Tuesday morning.
