Robert E. “Bob” Freestone (1946-2016)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Robert E. “Bob” Freestone, 70, of Cedar Falls died Friday, October 28, 2016 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

He was born June 8, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Robert Eugene and Ellen McKean (Argyle) Freestone. He married Myra D. Holbert on January 30, 1971 in Mesa, Arizona.

He earned his BS from Brigham Young University and MBA from the Pioneer Institute at Purdue University. He also attended the University of Minnesota and served in the Utah Air National Guard. He was a senior research scientist and soybean geneticist in plant breeding with Pioneer Hybrid. He later operated Bobs Computer Service.

Survived by his wife, Myra of Cedar Falls; four sons: Tom (Marie) of American Fork, Utah, Ben (Shawna) of Sioux City, James (Lindsay) of Surprise, Arizona, and Mark (Misti) of Layton, Utah; three daughters: Ellen (Tim) Buchwald of Ames, Emily (Lamar) May of Tooele, Utah, and Laura (Alex) Juarez of Orem, Utah; 30 grandchildren; his mother, Ellen Freestone of West Bountiful, Utah; two brothers, Ronald (Peggie) Freestone of West Bountiful, Utah, and Kevin (Diane) Freestone of Sandy, Utah; and three sisters, Barbara (Lee) Wineger of West Bountiful, Utah, Tammie (Bruce) Bratsch of Centerville, Utah, and Kristine (Guy) Koelling of Kaysville, Utah.

Preceded in death by: his father and a brother, Lynn Freestone.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cedar Falls Ward, with burial in the Bountiful City Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls.
