Obituary for Barbara J. Lattin

January 20, 1955 - May 19, 2016

Barbara Jo Lattin, 61, of Cedar Falls passed away Thursday, May 19th at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City after a courageous fourteen year battle with Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of cancer.

Barbara was born on January 20, 1955 to Clem LaVerne and Edith Mae (Foulk) Reiter, Jr. in Waterloo, Iowa and was the third of seven siblings growing up in La Porte City, Iowa. As a teenager, Barbara enjoyed cheerleading and was voted Homecoming Queen. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1973 after which she attended Hawkeye Community College and gave birth to a daughter, Heather in 1974.

Barbara spent time working at A&W and the La Porte City Pharmacy before accepting a job at Lattin Photography in 1982, eventually leading to Operations Manager. She enjoyed spending her free time with her family traveling, boating, motorcycling, water and snow skiing.

Barbara and Marc Lattin were married January 2, 2003 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo. Barbara’s brother, Larry, gave her a second chance at life donating his bone marrow for a transplant in 2003. His gift blessed us all with countless memories of time with Barbara.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Mae (Foulk) Reiter, as well as three brothers-in-law Steve Stern, Ron Baum, and Rex Callaway.

She is survived by her father, Clem Reiter Jr. of La Porte City; her husband, Marc Lattin of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Heather Palmer (Chris Eyer) of Mesa, AZ; a step-daughter, Olivia (Shaun) Smith of Pleasant Hill; a step-son, Dave (Laurie) McGrath of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Vicky Baum of Lakeville, MN., Debbie Stern, Lori (Jim) Clark, and Tina (Lynn) Hanna of La Porte City; two brothers, Dave Reiter and Larry (Georgia) Reiter of La Porte City; two grandchildren, Emerie and Dylan Palmer of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Sunday, May 22nd from 5:00-8:00PM at Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with a 8:00 p.m. Vigil Service. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23rd at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo at 1:30PM with visitation one hour before and burial following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or The American Cancer Society.
