Biography--

Stephen Arthur Showers, 80, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Rosewood Estate of Friendship Village on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, of natural causes.

Steve was born February 2, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Maynard and Gertrude Christoffersen Showers and the family moved to Waterloo when he was six months old. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954; and received his Bachelor degree in Business Commerce from the University of Iowa in 1958 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the President’s Club. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959‑1962.

He married Nancy Belle Stifel on April 5, 1975, at the First Methodist Church in Waterloo. Steve was the President and owner of Showers Insurance Agency in Waterloo from 1968 until his retirement July 1, 2010. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, past President and 53-year member of Waterloo Rotary Club, Spokesman Club, Jaycees, and 47 years with the Waterloo Ambassadors. He and Nancy were the 1995 Waterloo Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year. Steve also was an Iowa high school football referee.

Steve is survived by his wife: Nancy; sons, Robert S. (Donna) of Bloomington, Minnesota and David D. of Waterloo; daughter, Suzy (Joel) Willemssen of Fairfax Station, Virginia; five grandchildren: Vanessa, Bobby, and Christina Willemssen and Jennifer and Audrey Showers.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Friday, May 13, 2016 at First Congregational Church, 608 West 4th St., Waterloo.

Visitation:
Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Locke Funeral Home.

Cemetery:
Private family committal in Memorial Park Cemetery, at a later date.
