David George “Wimp” McCready

November 7, 1935 - April 26, 2016

David George “Wimp” McCready was born November 7, 1935 in Valley City, North Dakota, son of David and Dorothy (Borchers) McCready. After moving to Waterloo, Wimp attended and graduated from East High School with the Class of 1954.

He entered the Navy and served four years on the Aircraft Carrier Leading Leyte. After returning to Waterloo, Wimp worked for John Deere as a Forklift Operator retiring after 32 years of service in 1990. He loved fishing, traveling, watching the Green Bay Packers and wrestling on television as well as classic cars. Wimp was especially proud of his 1957 pink Cadillac.

Wimp passed away at the age of 80 years on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at his home in Evansdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald McCready; and his wife, Florence McCready.

Wimp is survived by his wife of 14 years, Marlys; two sons, Dan (Diana) McCready of Waterloo and Dale (Nancy) McCready of Waterloo; three step-daughters: Sherene (Carl) Brown of Washburn, Teresa Spencer of Arizona and Michele Dennis of Arizona; sister-in-law, Kathy McCready; and ten grandchildren: Carl Michael Brown, Carrie Smock, Cody Spencer, Andrew Dennis, Breana Dennis, Travis Thomas, Ashley (Joe) Flockhart, David (Jenn) McCready, Garrett McCready and Grant (Cynthia) McCready.
