Funeral services were held at 10:30 Saturday, February 19 at Hudson United Methodist Church for Gladys Hinz of Cedar Falls, formerly of Hudson. Gladys died on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at the Western Home of natural causes.

Gladys Faust was born August 20, 1915* in Black Hawk County, daughter of Henry and Nina Miller Faust. She married Harry William Hinz on October 18, 1936, in Waterloo. He died March 21, 1970.

Gladys was employed at the University of Northern Iowa for 23 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hudson, participating in the UMW, and active in the Golden Agers Group. Gladys was a donor and volunteer for the Red Cross and many blood drives in Black Hawk County. She had been active in the Eagles Club and Hudson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 559. She was chosen Woman of the Year for 1995-1996.

Gladys was known as "Hudson's Taxi Lady" for many years as she loved filling her car with lady friends and taking them to meetings, doctor appointments or wherever they needed to go. She also cared for several Hudson ladies in their homes. She had a love for gardening and flower beds and picking up twigs and branches in her children's yards and Hudson Parks.

She is survived by four sons: Gerald Hinz of Oklahoma, Richard Hinz and his wife Edie, of Cedar Falls, Harold Hinz and his wife Joyce, of Denver, Dale Hinz and his wife Joyce, of Charles City; three daughters: Marcy and her husband Ken Kristensen of Hudson, Jane and her husband Martin of Waterloo, and Rose Ann and her husband Chuck Demuth of Waterloo; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers: Harry, Harold, Carl and Clarence Faust; and a sister, Esther Reiter.
