Donald M. Hasbrouck

July 19, 1930 - March 28, 2016

Donald M. Hasbrouck, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 28, 2016, at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

Donald was born July 19, 1930, in New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Marlyn & Laura (Immings) Hasbrouck. He married Helen Napierkowski August 9, 1952, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death in 1992. He married Marilyn VanSant August 3, 1996, in Cedar Falls.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School and received his masters degree from Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI). Donald taught school at Quesqueton, Iowa and then had a long career in the public schools in Bloomington, Minnesota where he was a counselor and assistant principal at Olson Jr. High. He later became principal of JFK High School, retiring in 1985. Don enjoyed his family, golfing, playing bridge and loved to travel. Above all, he loved discussing current topics.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Cedar Falls; his son, Douglas (Faye Anderson) Hasbrouck, of Salt Lake City, Utah; his daughter, Cynthia (Jason) Schultz, of Albany, New York; a step daughter, Kathy (Kevin Burkholder) Hinders, of Superior, Wisconsin; two stepsons, William (Marsha) VanSant, of Minneapolis, Minnesota and David (Mary) VanSant, of Chaska, Minnesota; one daughter in law, Kris Hasbrouck, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Matthew (Brianna) Hasbrouck, Michelle (Kevin) Raasch, and Michael Hasbrouck; three great-granddaughters; seven step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; one son, Steven Hasbrouck and one sister, Carol Harken.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christian Crusaders or Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance in honor of his son, Steven.
