George Irvin (Irv) Jensen

Biography--

George Irvin “Irv” Jensen, 89, of Sun Village in Surprise, Arizona, and formerly of Hudson and Panora, Iowa, died March 21, 2016 at Banner Del Web Hospital in Sun City West, Arizona.

He was born November 20, 1926 in rural Tama County, Iowa, the son of Niels and Marie Jensen graduated high school in Hudson while working on a farm. Irv served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He was wounded while stationed in Okinawa and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

He married Donna Giesenberg. Irv was a police officer in Waterloo. After leaving the police force, George and his wife opened the Blue Goose Restaurant in Hudson and later owned the grocery store, Jensen Food Center.

He is survived by his son, Jeff (Gloria) Jensen of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Jo Anne Jensen, Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Gavin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Bailey of Seattle, Washington. Irv is also survived by his life partner, Gisela Weerts of Surprise, her daughters: Linda (Jim) Petrie and Diana (Alex Burgendale) Micaletti and grandchildren: Lindsay, Chris, Jennifer, Sheila, Andrew, Michael, Jessica, Anthony and Lauren; and several great-grandchildren.

Irv was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donna Giesenberg Jensen; brothers: Harold, Don and Bernie and one in infancy; and by two sisters, Frances Jensen and Sharon Appleby.
