November 11, 1926 - March 15, 2016

Biography--

Marlys M. Priebe, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, March 15 at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born November 11, 1926, in Waterloo, daughter of Darwin and Freeman Dyer Pitts.

Marlys graduated from Waterloo East High School and later from Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa). She taught kindergarten for 30 years in Waterloo.

Survivors include a son, Bill (Donna) Priebe of Mason City; a daughter, Sally Priebe of Waterloo; a grandson, Todd Slack of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her beloved four-legged granddaughter, Lucy; a sister, Sandra Arquette of Arizona; a nephew, Joe Arquette of Georgia; and her good friend, Ross DauSchmidt, of Traer.

Preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Maxine Aldrich and her ex-husband and best friend, Wilbur Priebe.

There will be a private family burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Per Marlys’ wishes, there will be no services. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony.

Marlys lived life to the fullest and always remained close to God. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. She played cello with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony.
