Biography--

Ward Littrel 91, of Hudson, Iowa, died at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls on Sunday, March 20, 2016.

He was born December 28, 1924 in Iowa City, son of Leal and Minnie Manasmith Littrel.

He served in the United States Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theater.

Ward married Patricia Durnin May 8, 1954 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He was a welder and terminal operator for Williams Pipeline for 42 years, retiring in 1987.

In 2001 he received the Governor’s Volunteer Award. He was on the Hudson Park Board for 26 years. He has been with the Hudson AmVets since 1969, is a lifetime member and in 1995 received the Iowa AmVet of the Year Award. He was the Sons of AmVets liaison at the state level for 10 years and Central 2nd District finance officer for many years. In 1996 he received the Sons of AmVets Commander of the Year Award and in 2015 the Lifetime Achievement Award for 50 plus years of service from Hudson Amvets Post #82. Ward was a Boy Scout Leader for 10 years and also had delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. He enjoyed sharing his home garden crop with friends and neighbors and managed a large plot outside Hudson where the produce was given to those in need.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Littrel, Hudson, Iowa; a daughter, Teresa (Tom) Peachee, Lancaster, California; a son, Dave Littrel, Waterloo; a son‑in‑law, Bob Cummings, Marion, Iowa; six grandchildren: Joshua Cummings, Stevie Cummings, Jared Peachee, Ashley (Steven) Tyre, Chyanne Peachee, and Brock Peachee; five great-grandchildren: Brenna, Mia and Logan Escabedo and Waylon and Westin Tyre; a brother, Larry (Cheryl) Littrel, North English, Iowa; and a sister, Carol Akers, W. Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Littrel; a daughter, Jeanene Cummings; brothers: Thomas, Lamont, and Dean; and by sisters, Marilyn Pemberton and June Lamphier.
