Biography--

Walter P. Lewis, Jr., 90, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein.

He was born November 16, 1925 in Dysart, the son of Walter G. and Helen Pine Lewis. Walter was united in marriage with Mary Lou Hubbard March 3, 1951 in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2008.

Walter was an electrician and manager at Crescent Electric Supply in Waterloo for many years. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Waterloo and served on the Church Council. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Elk’s Club. Walter was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy, and was a member of Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138. He was a volunteer at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and also hosted foreign exchange students from South Africa and Germany.

Survivors include three sons, Brian (Julie) Lewis of Cedar Falls, Larry (Susan) Lewis of Oelwein and Richard (Peggy) Lewis of Waterloo; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Rosemary Haas of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Randy A. Lewis; and a brother, Gordon Lewis.
