Allen Leroy Tarr

August 16, 1935 to February 23, 2016

Allen Leroy Tarr was born August 16, 1935, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Eithern and Elise (Sorenson) Tarr. He attended Waterloo Schools graduating from West High in 1953. Allen worked for John Deere for 22 years before retiring in 1998.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Ann Michelsen on December 30, 2007 following a long-term friendship. Together Allen and Kathryn enjoyed dancing, walking, rock hunting, traveling and bike riding. He was passionate about gardening and loved volunteering in ways that helped others. Allen also enjoyed organizing class reunions and hosting friends for dinner.

Allen passed away at the age of 80 years on February 23, 2016 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Robert A. Tarr. Allen is survived by his wife, Kathy; 2 step-sons, David A. Michelsen and Daniel L. (Shannon Fuller-Michelsen) Michelsen; one brother, Bob (Bev) Tarr of Washington; two sisters, Lee Ross of California and Lynda Barnard of Arizona; two step-grandchildren, Anna Marie Michelsen and Brayden Fuller; and an aunt Elaine (Al) Webbeking.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
