Frances Thalone (Edwards) Troutner was born March 5, 1911 in Watertown, South Dakota, the daughter of Orphace and Ella (Wogotzki) Edwards. Her family moved to Waterloo shortly after her birth to farm outside of Traer. Frances attended country schools, then Geneseo Consolidated High School graduating on May 28, 1928. She moved to Waterloo following graduation and began working for John Deere as the Assistant to the Office Manager where she met Clarmont Troutner.

The couple were wed on August 2, 1930 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After retiring from John Deere in 1973, Frances most enjoyed reading and always had a book at her side, only putting it down to watch her soap operas or spend time with her family.

Frances passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Elizabeth E. Martin Center just one week short of her 105th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarmont in September 1972; a daughter, Kae Troutner; two brothers, Forrest Edwards and Glenn Edwards. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Stewart of West Des Moines; one sister, Arlene Sparks of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren: Keith (Paola) Stewart of Des Moines, Kirt (Lauren) Stewart of Denver, CO, and Kent (Billie) Stewart of Adel, IA; and eight great-grandchildren: Emilee, Dalton, Tristan, Layana, Kyle, Noah, Madison and Kennedy.

Frances will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Memorials may be directed to the family.
