Biography--

Mary Arline Kline Cornelius, 100, of Waterloo and formerly of Hudson, died at Friendship Village Retirement Center, on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 of natural causes.

Arline was born on February 13, 1916 in Orange Township, Iowa, the daughter of John Russell and Alice Naomi Sanderson Kline.

She graduated from Orange High School in 1933 and received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College.

Arline married Howard Cornelius June 24, 1947, in Waterloo. He died June 20, 1956.

She taught in Yale, New Hartford, and Nevada, Iowa, after graduating. She then worked as a fingerprint analyst during World War II for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC from 1943-1945. She came back to Orange Township and helped her parents farm and taught at Orange School until she married. After 1956, she tutored and substitute taught at Hudson Community Schools until 1960. She also collected information for the City of Hudson for the County Assessor. In 1960, she began working in the office at the Hudson Co-op as a bookkeeper until retiring in 1981.

Arline was a lifetime member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of Women's Fellowship. She was past president of Women's Federated Club, Hudson. As a youth, she was a member of the Orange Township 4-H Club and later was state officer/historian.

She enjoyed reading immensely and looking at her grandchildren’s pictures.

Survived by her children, Stephen (Brigitte) Cornelius of Decorah, Michael (Connie) Cornelius of Zearing, and Jane Cornelius Steele of Verona, VA; 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Albert Russell Cornelius; sister, Sara Mae Kline Moir; brothers, Harold and William Kline.

Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren

Burial precedes services at Orange Township Cemetery
