Biography--

Lawrence M (Larry) Winninger, 91, of Waterloo died at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village Tuesday, February 16, 2016 of natural causes.

Larry was born June 2, 1924, in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Joseph and Viola Kascht Winninger. He graduated from Waterloo East High School. Larry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a propeller mechanic. He married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) McGrane June 16, 1947. She died November 4, 2013.

After World War II Larry owned and operated Larry’s Skelly Service Station. In 1957 he went into the real estate business until his retirement in 2001.

Larry was active with Boy Scouts of America, Elk’s Club, Exchange Club, Waterloo Downtown Rotary Club where he served as President when he was 72.

He is survived by three children: Thomas (Lynne) Winninger of Edina, Minnesota, Ann (Steve) Wilbur of Thornton, Colorado, and Mark (Kathy) Winninger of Waterloo. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Kristi (AJ) Fosik, JR (Lee Ann) Reed, Tony (Aspen) Wilbur, Laura Winninger, Ben (Dana) Winninger, Sara (Jorge) Lopez, Ginny (Mike) Ogle, Kate (Stefan) Smith, Alex Winninger, and Nicholas Winninger; 14 great-grandchildren: Jacob Paige, Graham Paige, Brantley (Abby) Paige, Melina Lopez, Diego Lopez, Abe Fosik, Liam Winninger, Neva Winninger, Mara Winninger, Hannah Wilbur, Riley Wilbur, Makenna Wilbur, Theo Ogle and Everett Smith; and one great-great-grandson, Kayson Paige.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
