Arlene Heineman (1919-2016)

DENVER, IOWA — Arlene Heineman, 96, of Denver, died Saturday, February 6, at the Denver Sunset Home.

She was born July 3, 1919, in Bennington Township, daughter of William and Mary Hein Poock. On Oct. 23, 1938, she married Lawrence Heineman at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Maxfield; he died in July 2006.

Arlene attended school in rural Black Hawk County through the eighth grade. She and her husband farmed east of Denver. They owned and operated “The Rite Spot” in Denver from 1950 to 1974.

Survived by: two grandchildren, Dawn (Jeff) Riley and Tadd (Lisa) Hennings, both of Denver; four great-grandchildren, Kelli, Kristina and Kurtis Smith and Mathew (Kelly) Hennings; and a great-great-grandchild, Navaeh Smith.

Preceded in death by: her parents; two daughters, Mary Jean Heineman and Carol Wagner; a sister, Velma Bruns; and two brothers, Ed and Art Poock.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Denver, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services at the church.
