Dunkerton, Iowa - Alice “Sal” Hauptly, 88 of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and formerly of Dunkerton, Iowa, died Monday, January 25, 2016, at the Western Home Elizabeth Martin Center in Cedar Falls.

She was born July 30, 1927, at Dunkerton the daughter of Archie Harrison Shimp and Juanita Leona (Wilson) Shimp. Following graduation from Dunkerton High School with the class of 1945, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls to earn her teaching certificate.

On March 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to Delbert Boyd Bartholomew at the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton. After his death in 1960, she married Carroll Edwin Hauptly on October 13, 1962, at the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton, and also the Red Hats and Secret Pal Club. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking and caring for her family.

Mrs. Hauptly is survived by two sons, Joseph (Teresa) Bartholomew of Waterloo, James (Lisa) Bartholomew of Waterloo; three daughters, Janet (Steve) Dullard of Chicago Heights, IL, Jolene (Robert) Wheeler of Cedar Falls, Jayne (Randy) Reed of Dunkerton; four step-sons, James (Sue) Hauptly of Dunkerton, Robert (Siong) Hauptly of Waterloo, Donald Hauptly of Dunkerton, Jon (Cindy) Hauptly of Waterloo; one step daughter, Jan Hauptly of Dunkerton; 25 grandchildren and numerous great and great great-grandchildren; also a sister in law, Mary Lou Shimp of Dunkerton. Her parents; two husbands; one stillborn son, John Bartholomew and four brothers, Richard, Robert, William and Jack Shimp preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be Friday, January 29, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, Dunkerton, Iowa, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton. Visitation will be Thursday at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH in Dunkerton and for an hour before services, Friday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to the Dunkerton Food Pantry and to the North American Mission Board.
