Biography--

Jean M. Appleby, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa,died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at her home from natural causes. Jean Margaret was born December 27, 1930 in Fayette County, Iowa the daughter of Willis Eugene and Ida Louise Sabin Leech. She married Jack Appleby October 2, 1953, in Waterloo.

Jean graduated from Sumner High School in 1948; she attended St. John’s College in Winfield, KS and graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College. She received her Master’s Degree in English Literature the University of Northern Iowa.

Jean taught English for the Waterloo Community School District as well as in Indiana and Illinois. She retired from teaching Communications and English from Hawkeye Community College after 29 years in 1995.

Jean was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was Past President of Lutheran Women’s missionary League and Past President of Quota Club

Survivors include her husband Jack, of Waterloo, two sons: Jonathan J. and his wife Janet of Lake Wylie, SC; Mark W. and his wife Betty of North Ft. Meyers, FL; a daughter Meredith M Anderson and her husband Marty of Hudson; five grandchildren: Ashton Appleby, Aaron Appleby, Carter Anderson, Ross Anderson, Katherine (Joe) Schuhow; two great grandchildren: Dorie and Drew Schuhow. She is also survived by two sisters: Edith Law of Waterloo, NE and Lorraine Leech, Davis, CA.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Melissa Joy, infant brother, sister Janice Leech.
