Philip Paul Hufferd (1936-2015)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Philip Paul Hufferd, 79, of Cedar Falls, died January 4, 2016, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

He was born December 29, 1936 in Ames, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mildred Hufferd. He married Joyce Klass on August 23, 1959 in Glidden, Iowa.

He graduated from high school in Coon Rapids, Iowa, received a BA degree in Agronomy/Ag Business in 1959 from ISU and a MA degree in Business from UNI in 1969. He worked for the ISU Extension Service in 1963 in Grundy County and joined the Waterloo Area Extension service in 1969 as an Economics Farm Management Specialist.

During Phil’s 22 foreign trips he worked with agriculture organizations, local businesses and farmers, providing needs assessment, problem-solving, and sustainable developmental assistance in Russia, Muldova, Ukraine, Ghana, Nicaragua and China.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Diane Hufferd of West Des Moines and Sharon (Bill) Sand of Dacula, GA; Duane (Annette) Hufferd of Watervliet, NY; five grandchildren: Evan (Whitney) Sand, Westin (Samantha) Sand, Daniel Hufferd, Dayla Hufferd, and Charles Hufferd; two great grandchildren, Colton and Harper Sand; a sister, Joan (Stan) Olson of Adel; a brother, Jim Hufferd of Adel; a sister-in-law, Jan Hufferd of Aurora, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David.

Memorial Services are Friday at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, and also for one hour prior to services at the church. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Falls Rough Risers Kiwanis, Self Help International, or Western Home Communities.
