Biography--

Roger Eugene Rieks, 78, of Harpers Ferry, formerly of Dysart, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at his home of natural causes.

He was born April 6, 1937, in Hubbard, Iowa, the son of Ewald and Marian (Cowell) Rieks.

He attended Alpha High School. He married Bonnie Clapp on August 20, 1992, in Kieler, Wisconsin.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1962. Roger was a machinist for over 30 years at John Deere Co. retiring in 1984. He also worked as a police officer for Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department and also the City of Dysart. He farmed in the Dysart area over 38 years.

Roger was an avid fisherman. His true love of fishing came from his trips to Canada where he strived to be the first one on the lake heading to Red Pine. He loved being out on the lake or river and was waiting anxiously this year for summer to arrive so he could take the whole family on a fishing trip. Roger enjoyed wood working and when he was no longer able to do this craft, he used his creativity to design beautiful quilts. If he was not out on the river or lake, Roger could be found sitting on his deck supervising the river and admiring his pride and joy rose bushes. He will be greatly missed by the squirrels and birds he tamed over the years.
