Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, IowaBiography--
Anne Marie Berg, 100, of Waterloo died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Rosewood Estate. She was born in Pesaro, Italy December 27, 1914, daughter of Timothy and Teresa Marcelli Marchionni. The family moved to France in 1923. In World War II her father, an electrician, was conscripted for work by the Germans and Anne Marie was destined to go to a camp. However, her father refused to go with the Germans unless she went with him as his secretary. Fortunately they agreed.
She married Virgil J. Berg of Waterloo on December 20, 1945 in St. Peters church in Nancy, France at the end of World War II. She is survived by her husband Virgil of Waterloo. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Lino in Italy and George in France; a sister Lydia in France. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and attended faithfully.
Anne Marie brought with her from France a strong background in men’s tailoring received from noted tailors in Nancy, France. Her skill in sewing was well known in this area and her proudest claim was that she never produced a bad piece of work. There was never a sewing problem that she could not solve. With her husband she made many voyages to France and Italy where she enjoyed so much visiting with her family.
Anne Marie became engaged in the sport of archery with her husband and achieved many awards for her skills including some state championships.
