Independence, Iowa – Kevin W. Wilson, 49 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, December 14, 2015, at ABCM Rehabilitation Centers of Independence – East Campus in Independence.
He was born on February 20, 1966, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Wayne Burton and Florence Charlene (Wilt) Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a graduate of River Hills School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was employed as a greeter at Wal-Mart and he also performed janitorial services at Long John Silvers in Waterloo. He liked to watch sports on TV (especially the Iowa Hawkeyes) and he was country music fan. He especially enjoyed vacationing in Branson, Missouri. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence where enjoyed attending worship and helping the ushers.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his father and step mother, Wayne and Betty Wilson of Independence, Iowa; three half-brothers: Gary (Barbara) Gustafson of Vinton, Iowa, David Gustafson of Kuna, Idaho, Alan (Leane) Gustafson of Lakefield, Minnesota; four step-brothers: Steven (Pamela) Greenwod of Viroqua, Wisconsin, David (Sherrie) Greenwood of Petersburg, Illinois, William (Darlene) Greenwood of Winthrop, Iowa, and Eric (Tonya) Greenwood of Rowley, Iowa; and by four step-sisters, Rebecca (Richard) Kimmerle of Chino Valley, Arizona, Barbara (John) Fischels of Independence, Iowa, Melissa (Thomas) Franck of Rio Hondo, Texas, and Jennifer (Phillip) McAtee of Jesup, Iowa; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Wilson, and a step-sister, Susan Stelter.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
