Janie Armena (White) Mettlin was born August 6, 1946, in Missouri, daughter of John and Mabel White. Her family moved to Evansdale, Iowa when she was young due to her father’s job at Rath Packing. At the age of 13, Janie joined the family of Dorothy and John Stockfield and lived with them until her graduation from Cedar Falls High School in 1964.

She was married to Robert Mettlin, Jr. in Waterloo on June 24, 1967. The couple moved to Nebraska and, then, Arkansas, returning to Iowa in 1976. Janie worked in nursing homes doing transportation, medical records and as a Certified Nursing Assistant retiring in 2004.

Following retirement she battled (and beat) breast cancer! Janie was a mom and grandmother to most of the people she met. She was a loving person who enjoyed baking for and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janie passed away at the age of 69 years on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Allen Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her five children: Jennifer (Tim) Hampton of Waterloo, Vikki (Ken) Hampton of Waterloo, Dawn (Joseph) Nickerson of Colo, Brian (Jessica) Mettlin of Jesup and Robin (Valentin) Escobar of Waterloo; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
