Deborah Gabler

October 27, 1955 - December 2, 2015

Deborah Gabler, 60, of Adel, Iowa, transcended this world after a courageous 14 year battle with ovarian cancer.

Her memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd. in Clive.

Deby was born on October 27, 1955 in Waterloo, Iowa to Ardell and Carma Robinson. She was the oldest of four children and she spent her childhood in various parts of Iowa. The family ultimately settled in Des Moines, IA where Deby attended Des Moines Technical High School (Class of 1973). It was here that she met her future husband Dennis, and in 1977 the two were united in marriage.

Over the next seven years, Deby was blessed to become a mother of four and took great pride her children. She was active as a leader in their activities and was always making homemade holiday gifts for the family. Her carefree nature was evident in her parenting style and this love for life and family continued into her role as a grandmother. Her six grandchildren were her world and she loved spending time with them and watching them each grow into unique individuals.

Besides her family, her main passion in life was that of an advocate and she was a champion for the underdog. She was always trying to make the world a better place and had a special place in her heart for the underserved.

In 2001, Deby was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. While her prognosis was never good, she didn’t let this define her. Instead, she spent the next 14 years defying the odds. Her constant positive attitude was inspirational to those around her and her sense of humor made her a memorable patient.

Deby is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Adel; children, Miranda (Phil) Gauthier of Ankeny, Jason (Rochelle) Gabler of West Des Moines, and Elizabeth Gabler of Grimes; grandchildren Madisynn, Nathyn, Chelsey, Drake, James, and Bobby; mother, Carma Kern of Yulee, FL; brothers, David Robinson of Des Moines and Randy Robinson of Ocala, FL and her sister, Linda Daley of Jacksonville, FL.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa and her father, Ardell Robinson.
