Paul George Gottschalk was born November 14, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of William and Charlotte (Jecklin) Gottschalk. He graduated high school from Dubuque, and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), earning a BA in Mathematics. Paul furthered his education at the University of Northern Colorado, receiving a Masters in Education.

He was married to Florine Grotjohn; she preceded him in death. Paul was united in marriage to Carol Huffman in 1965 in Audubon, Iowa. He taught school for many years in Audubon, Iowa, and then taught at Logan Junior High until his retirement. Following his retirement, Paul taught part time for a few years at Hawkeye Community College. He was also the President of the Waterloo Education Association for two years. Paul enjoyed sailing, taking care of his rose garden and spending time with his family.

Paul passed away on Monday, December 07, 2015, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House at the age of 87.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Florine and a brother Melvin Gottschalk. Paul is survived by his wife Carol of Waterloo; three sons: David Gottschalk of Denver, Colorado, John (Heidi) Gottschalk of Phoenix, Arizona and Brian (Mary) Gottschalk of Adel, Iowa; three daughters: Jan (Mike) Prideaux of Waterloo, Becky (Jon) Hegenbarth of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and Lien (Quinn) Kilbourn of Waterloo; six grandchildren: Stephen (Leslie) Prideaux, Tayler and Kai Kilbourn, Allison and Amy Gottschalk and Jeffrey Hegenbarth; two great-granddaughters: Zella and Marlo Prideaux and a sister Edna Mozena of Dubuque.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
