Elinor Speer Kalinich was born on January 8, 1923 in Buckingham, Iowa: the daughter of Harold and Virlea (Mitchell) Speer. She graduated from Geneseo Consolidated High School with the class of 1940.

Elinor was united in marriage to Peter Kalinich on March 15, 1947 in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on June 8, 1986. She worked at Gamble Robinson as a comptometer operator. Elinor was then employed at Black’s Department Store Credit Office as a credit officer until her retirement. She was a member at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo for many years. Elinor enjoyed traveling, sewing, playing cards and bingo. She loved spending time with her family, especially all the Sunday dinners.

Elinor passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Lakeview Landing at the age of 92.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother Erle Speer and three sisters: Betty Hiatt, Sara Kalinich and Marian Pritchard.

Elinor is survived by a son, John (Connie) Kalinich of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter Penny (Dennis) Bunger of Waterloo; four grandchildren: Heidi (Chad) Fordyce, Amy (David) Lederman, Lauren (Andy) Cook and Tara Kalinich; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Mitchell of Waterloo.

Elinor was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed dearly.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.
