Friday, December 5, 2014 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, 3146 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo. The casket will be closed.

Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo

Biography--

Phyllis L. Freilinger, 82, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born February 3, 1932 in Colona, Wisconsin, the daughter of Emil and Louise Matthews Frozene. She married Merlin T. Freilinger November 23, 1949 in New Albin. They later divorced.

Mrs. Freilinger was a bus driver for the Waterloo Community Schools for 13 years and for Exceptional Persons eight years. Then she drove buses for Head Start and the Council on Aging.

Phyllis graduated from and played basketball for New Albin High School. She liked vegetable gardening, crafts, and Bingo. She was proud of her doll and stuffed animal collection. Phyllis loved cats and children and was an advocate for her “special people”. She had a strong faith in God and led the rosary at Ravenwood. Above all, Phyllis was a very loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, Arnold (Debbie) Freilinger of Waterloo, and Mark Freilinger of Marshalltown; seven daughters, Theresa (Keith) Harken of Waterloo, Diane Twait of Forest City, Nancy Freilinger of Waterloo, Annette (Bill) Thorpe of Waterloo, Colleen Robinson of Creve Couer, Illinois, Lisa Shadow of Waterloo, and Debra Graveman of Council Bluffs; one sister, Frieda Kearney of Center Point; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Bernice Freilinger; two brothers, Rollie and Harold Frozene; and two sisters, Adeline Carroll and Annabelle Swick.
