Services:
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, 7401 University Avenue in Cedar Falls.

In accord with her wishes, Betty’s body has been donated to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for medical research.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be at later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Memorials:
The family requests that memorial gifts be designated to the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine for research in hematologic malignancies. Gifts can be made in Mrs. Mundt’s honor and mailed directly to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, 200 First St. S.W., Rochester, MN 55905.

Biography--

Betty J. Mundt, age 85, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born October 13, 1929, in Meadow Township, rural Clay County, Iowa, the daughter of Levi Merrill and Nira Vivian (Lake) Alexander. Betty graduated from Waterloo East High School. She was united in marriage with Robert J. Mundt, on November 25, 1948 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2004.

Betty began her career working as a telephone operator. She later worked as an AVON sales representative for many years and in the kitchen at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls for several years. Betty and her husband lived in Cedar Falls, Minnesota and then Arizona after their retirement. They enjoyed camping and traveling together and covered many miles throughout the United States.

Following Bob’s death, Betty moved to Rochester, Minnesota where she lived for 10 years, recently returning home to Cedar Falls.

Betty and Bob did everything together including sewing, quilting, painting and cooking. She was a wonderful Mom and Grandmother and loved spending time with her family. Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 Auxiliary in Waterloo.

Survivors include four daughters, Pamela Patrou of Cross Plains, WI, Jody (Jack) Murphy of Columbia, MO, Robin (Ned) Venter and Peggy Mundt (Harlan Sergeant), all of Cedar Falls; a son, Jeffrey (Laura) Mundt of Rochester, MN; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with two more on the way in June 2015; two sisters, Joyce Held of Cedar Rapids and Muriel Perrigo of California and a brother-in-law, Jacob Hazlet of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; a sister, Jennie Hazlet; and two brothers-in-law, Dick Held and Jerry Perrigo.
