Thursday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and for an hour before services at the church

Biography--

Harvey P. Myli, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids on Monday, January 12, 2015,

Harvey was born on December 26, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Philip and Lillian Weidler Myli.

He graduated from Kensett High School and attended Waldorf and Wartburg Colleges. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to1947, receiving an honorable discharge, with the rank of Tech 4.

Harvey married Shirley Levers June 10, 1951 in Reinbeck.

He was employed by John Deere in the Quad Cities and Waterloo. He retired in 1985 after 34 years of service.

Harvey was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he served as a council member. He was active with the Boy Scouts and was an assistant Scout Master in the Quad Cities and Waterloo. He was proud of his five sons and three grandsons, who earned their Eagle Scout Award. Harvey enjoyed woodworking. The last 30 years of his life, Harvey was blind.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Cedar Rapids; five sons, Rickert (Jacque) of Waterloo, Randall (Sharon) of Peoria, Illinois, Larry (Kathy) of Plainfield, Illinois, Kenneth of Peoria, Illinois, and Bradley (Hope) of Hainesville, Illinois; two daughters, Peggy Van Dyke of Lisle, Illinois and Melody (James) Fuller of Marion; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ronald (Diane) of Northwood.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Plagge and Phyllis Spell; and a great-grandson.
