Inurnment will be held on Monday, May 25, 2015 at St. Peter Cemetery, Columbia City, Indiana

Biography--

Ellen L. Hillmer, age 92, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.

She was born November 23, 1922 in Ambur Chittoor District, South India, the daughter of missionary parents, Rev. Carl M. and Cora Knupke Doermann. Ellen attended High School in India and came to the United States to attend Nursing School in Milwaukee, WI. She met her future husband, Rev. Sigmund W. Hillmer just before returning to India to be the Nursing Administrator for a hospital. The couple was later married on June 18, 1950 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2007.

Ellen was a faithful Pastor’s wife and mother for many years, raising her family at home. After her children had grown, she returned to nursing and cared for patients until retiring in 1985.

Survivors include four sons: Paul Hillmer of Hudson, Iowa, John Hillmer of Tampa, Florida, Philip Hillmer of Fisher, Illinois and Timothy Hillmer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Ann Jung of North Richland Hills, Texas; ten grandchildren: Christen, Abby, Ansel, Olivia, Lukas, Sarah, Rachel, Becky, Josh and Sarah; a great-granddaughter, Hannah; and two brothers, Al Doermann of Maryland and Rev. Ralph Doermann of Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Carl and Cora Doermann, a sister, Grace Hull and a brother, Dr. Paul Doermann
