Services:
Friday, May 29, 2015 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2211 Maynard Avenue in Waterloo. Full military honors will be accorded following the funeral service.

Visitation:
Public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and an hour prior to the services on Friday at the Church.

May be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church, 2211 Maynard Avenue, Waterloo, Iowa 50701.

Biography--

Burnette O. “Burt” Volker, age 74 of Waterloo, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at UnityPoint – Allen Hospital.

He was born September 24, 1940 in Sumner, Iowa, the son of Orville and Ruby (Korman) Volker. Burt graduated from Orange Township High School with the Class of 1958 and following graduation he joined the US Navy, serving until August 1961. He was united in marriage with Mary M. Grimstad on April 6, 1963 at Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Burt was a tool and die designer and during his career he worked for Schoitz Engineering, John Deere & Co. in Waterloo, Everco in Ottumwa and NTN Bower in Macomb, Illinois. where he retired in 2001. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo, and was a longtime member of the Raymond Bow Hunters Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Waterloo; a daughter, Laura (Christopher) Lee of Woodbury, MN; a son, Brad Volker of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Spencer and Madison Lee; and three sisters: Virginia Palmer Terfehn and Phyllis Grimstad, both of Waterloo and Nancy (Daniel) Naughton of Cedar Rapids.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents.

Burt enjoyed the outdoors, and especially loved the camaraderie of his fellow hunters and fishers. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
