Biography--

Donald E. “Don” Franke, 80, of Evansdale, died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

Don was born April 14, 1935 in Creston, the son of Edwin F. and Edna M. Graham Franke. He married LaVonne D. Hartson September 11, 1955 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2013.

He was employed by Rath Packing Company and then John Deere & Company, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed drag racing and street rods. Don was also a former member of the Ramblers Car Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Terri (Jerry) Winkie of Evansdale, and Angie (Tim) Phillips of Independence; four grandchildren, Kara (Shane) Hepler, Kory (Jesse Kohl) Winkie, Cody (April) Phillips, and Cole Phillips; four great grandchildren, Brayden, Deven, Presley, and Riley, and two brothers, Russell Duane (Kathy) Franke of Waterloo, and Richard “Dick” Franke of Collerville, Tennessee.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, and one brother, Dean Franke.
