Biography--

Larry Dale Spears, 68, of Evansdale, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at his home of complications of vascular dementia.

He was born January 28, 1947 in Waterloo, the son of Glenn Leroy and Thelma Rose (Uhde) Spears. Larry was a 1965 graduate of East High School in Waterloo and attended Hawkeye Community College and UNI.

He married Rita Ostdahl in 1965, they were later divorced. Larry was united in marriage to Dianne Goodrich in 1977 in Waterloo.

Larry worked as an electrician for John Deere Waterloo Works for 41 years, retiring in 2007. His passion was spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Larry made annual trip to go fishing in Canada and elk hunting in Colorado. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. Larry built and remodeled homes and loved the process from beginning to end.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne of Evansdale; three sons; Ron of Waterloo, Larry (Keri) of Waverly, Aaron of Evansdale; one step-son, Brandon (Jennifer) Goodrich of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; one brother, Gerald of Cedar Falls; and five sisters; Karen Kieler of Waterloo, Sharon Spears of Waterloo, Rebecca (Craig) Murray of Denver, Janet (John) Gander of Prairie du Chien, WI, and Debra (Craig) Cook of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sandra Spears.
