Roseanna Van Syoc

March 14, 1930 - February 28, 2015

Roseanna May Van Syoc was born on March 14, 1930, in Waterloo, the daughter of Louie and Emma (Schellhorn) Essmann. She grew up in Waterloo and graduated from East High with the class of 1948.

On July 25, 1948, Roseanna was united in marriage to Veryl Van Syoc at the Fist Congregational Church in Waterloo. The couple made their home in Waterloo. Roseanna worked as a Secretary in the Administration Office of the Waterloo School Systems for 29 and a half years.

She was president of BPW (Business of Professional Women) and the Iowa Winniehawks. After retirement, Veryl and Roseanna bought a motor home and traveled the United States with the WIT Travelers Club. They also enjoyed riding their motorcycle and spending their Winters in Surprise, Arizona.

Roseanna died at the age of 84, on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo under the care of Unity Point Hospice. Roseanna passed away within hours of her sister, Erna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Danny; four sisters, Amanda Essmann, Marinna Bruns, Ann Foutch and Erna Galbraith; and two brothers, Ervin Essmann and Kenneth Essmann. Roseanna in survived by a son, Craig (Lynda) Van Syoc of Clear Lake; a daughter in law, Suzanne Van Syoc of Waterloo; two brothers, Chuck and Lewis Essmann; three grandchildren, Christopher Van Syoc, Stephanie (Lonnie) Moore and Abby (Michael) Teigland; and five great grandchildren, Devon, Gabrielle and Sierra Moore and Julia and Mia Rose Teigland.
