Claude “Bud” Insko

December 10, 1921 - August 23, 2015

Claude “Bud” Thornton Insko was born December 10, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Claude Summers and Margaret Esther (Glover) Insko. He enlisted in the Navy May 18, 1942. Bud went through Boot Camp at Great Lakes Training Station; Gunnery Training in Chicago Armed Guard Station; served on the S.S. Josiah Bartlet with a 42 ship convoy that went to North Africa; and served with the National Guard in Brooklyn, NY. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Bud married Phoebe Bell Davis on November 5th, 1953 and she died in 1968. He worked as an Iron Worker as a member of the Local 89 and helped construct many local buildings such as Allen Hospital and Logan Junior High School. In fact, at the time of his death, Bud was the oldest living member of the Local 89. He loved racing! Bud built and fixed race cars in his spare time and shared his love with many inspiring others such as his nephew, Charlie.

Bud passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Allen Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phoebe; brother, Richard Insko; and his sister, R. Mardelle Kopache.

Bud is survived by step-daughter, Nancy (Jim) Gray of Waterloo; nieces, Lois (Chuck) Ress, Barb DeLisle both of Indianapolis, IN and Lenna Brown of Savannah, TN; nephew, Charles Kopache of Waterloo; step-grandchildren, Tammy Moore, Todd Gray, Susie Sorensen; and great-nieces and great-nephews: Patrick Ress, Jamie Carlton, Barry DeLisle, Darren Kopache, Holly Bevis and Nick Brown.

Memorials may be directed to the family for Bud’s monument.
